Graffiti: a particular and amazing art

Even thought they are different countries, people coincide in many things of making graffiti. This is a way to express their feelings and thoughts about political and social issues. For example, in Colombia some graffiti show the disagreement with the government of the ex-president, Uribe. In Honduras, graffiti artists exhibit the violence in streets but with the purpose to finish it.

It´s really nice that in places like Buenos Aires, Argentina, people agree so freely with this art. The artists don’t have to hide or anything because they take this so seriously, that they ask the owner of buildings to draw there. Its variety of graffiti is really amazing and the best thing is the good appreciation of this work by argentines.

I have to say I was surprised by the creativity of Brazilian artists; their graffiti is wonderful, full of colors and life. Also shows that making this, is not that easier as others thinks but requires creativity and passion.

It is the same in Northern Africa. Artists just want to express their ideas about life´s experiences and problems that countries are going through by graffiti.

Thai Gangs !

What I like most about Thai gangsters is the fact that they recognize were the style they´re adopting, comes from, also that they adopted it but taking all the good things from this subculture. I consider they’re maybe an example of really Latin gangsters because instead of being fighting or causing violence they consider each one as a friend so they´re very closed. Undoubtedly, they aren´t interested on doing bad things, they just get together, mostly at night and share experiences.

They just adopted it because they appreciate their “clean and simply style” as the text says. It´s really interesting that they use this style of clothes, different tattoos and that stuff to show up some disagreement or thoughts about the reality they´re living. For example one of them made a rap expressing his feelings about corruption in Thai police. In that way they can show things that aren´t ok and at the same time they encourage people to respect and defend their rights.

Racism

Unfortunately, since long time ago, Racism had existed, and it hadn´t finished yet. Despite, people in the past made mistakes, like feeling superior than others, I think we always have had the power to eliminate it, it depends on us. Not only racism does happen to dark skinned ones but also to white ones.

I was really surprised when my mom told me once that she was discriminated in her school by other kids because she was the only white girl in the classroom. That experience made me wonder something… What is the attitude we should adopt to enface this problematic? Then I realized that the answer is very simple just respect and tolerate others the way they are. We should be mature and finish what we stared.

Who I am...

My name is Daniela Martinez, I am from Cartagena but people say I don’t seem to. Not only because I don’t have the accent, but also my mom is from Norte de Santander so my physical appearance is quite different from Cartagena´s people.  Now I am studying Industrial Engineer at Universidad Del Norte in Barranquilla.

I move here when I was 12. Although, I don’t regret about moving, it was really hard at the begging because it was like starting again, new city, house, school and friends. However, this city and its people know how to receive and embrace others. I met great friends but without forgetting the older ones. I like spending time with my family and friends, going to the movies and restaurants. Also love Italian food and music too.
